Scenes from the 1994 Caretakers of the
Environment International Conference
Aberdeen, Scotland

Delegates participate in fieldwork at a Site of Special Scientific Interest, Scotstown Moor. This site is in the middle of a modern suburban housing development on the north side of Aberdeen.

Fieldwork trip to investigate the sustainability of modern agricultural practices, Aberdeen College, School of Rural Studies.

Peterhead Power Station on the north-east coast of Scotland was another venue for fieldwork where the sustainablilty of oil and gas from the North Sea as sources of energy for electricity production was investigated.

It was not all hard work at the conference! Here delegates from Nova Scotia, Canada and the original Scotia (Scotland!) discuss a musical challenge!

The local television company ‘Grampian Television’ produces a special studio debate programme about the conference theme. The delegate formed the audience for this debate which focused on 2 major Scottish environmental issues - the Ythan Estuary National Nature Reserve and the Super Quarry planned for Harris on the Western Isles.

The large group of Portuguese delegates always play a full part in conference entertainment programmes. Pity there is no sound file to go with this picture!!
