Ideas for the Scottish network
Following the successful international conference for over 200 students and teachers which was held in Aberdeen in June 1994 a group of personnel who were involved in the event have been working to make plans to establish a Scottish network.
The following tasks have been undertaken.
- A set of initial aims for the network have been written.
- All Scottish secondary schools have been mailed information leaflets outlining our aims, plans and ideas.
- Schools were invited to respond if they were interested in participating in the proposed network. Around 10% of the country’s secondary schools responded positively to this invitation.
- A Caretakers Scotland Internet site has been established. The purpose of this is to publish information and to seek ideas and feedback on the proposals for the Scottish network.
Future plans include:
- an annual conference for senior students and teachers from around the country
- development of joint environmental education projects for schools around Scotland
- information technology based projects such as on-line conferences on environmental issues. For example specific Scottish environmental issues or on the Scottish dimension of global environmental issues
- facilitating the exchange of teaching materials and ideas for environmental education work in schools
