This curriculum plan comes from Earth Generation's New York Educator's Guide,
a print publication with 10 complete curriculum plans for junior high students
investigating environmental issues relevant to the Great Lakes region. "Birds:
Our Environmental Indicators" has been formatted for electronic dissemination
by EE-Link. We have preserved the exact text but have added links within

Systems - GIS
Geographic information systems (GIS) technology can be used for scientific
investigations, resource management, and development planning. For example,
a GIS might allow emergency planners to easily calculate emergency response
times in the event of a natural disaster, or a GIS might be used to find
wetlands that need protection from pollution.
GLOBE Program
Students and teachers from over 3500 schools in 55 countries are working
with research scientists to learn more about our planet.
GREEN - Global Rivers Environmental Education Network
GREEN is an innovative, action-oriented approach to education, based on

Program
The Sustainable Cities Programme (SCP) is a joint facility of the United
Nations Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat) and United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP) for the development of a sustainable urban environment,
founded on broad-based public participation. The programme has been in operation
since 1990 and is now active in over 15 countries around the world.
Testbed for Telecollaboration
The Testbed for Telecollaboration, a three-year research project sponsored
by the National Science Foundation, is investigating how to use the resources
of the Internet for Network Science -- students at geographically distant
sites working collaboratively to explore a shared problem. The Testbed is
located at TERC in Cambridge, MA.
