There is Hope
By Vivian from Ghana

In the silence of the woods of Laguna Hule
I hear the sound of rushing water
Not knowing exactly where it is coming from
But somewhere in the forest
Various birds chattered and sang
The howler monkeys howled louder
Cicadas rasped away
The wind caused the leaves to flap
Then I asked myself - where am I?

I am at the bottom of the crater
In which lies Laguna Hule
The largest of three with forests all around
Up above, 10 families of the local community
Are devoted to conserving the lagoon
The diversity of both plant and animal life
To them , bats and insects like butterflies
Do not only pollinate and spread the growth of plants
They provide the herbal medicines to cure our ails
Peaceful atmosphere and a hope for the future.

Untitled
by Goli Partovi, Sweden

He sits alone in his car
driving to nowhere
The sky is high
his tongue is dry
and his motto is “No Fear”.

Fear of what you might wonder
the one who has it all
Car, girlfriend and a pretty house
there’s no way he can fall.

But if you look a little closer
you can see the clouds in his eyes.
That is why he wears sunglasses for $1000
because he knows, that eyes never lie.

Deserted beach
Ole Sarvig, Denmark

where everything is grey
and shiny, oily water with no winds
the empty road to the other coasts

Slimy algae choke the bottom
greenish grey and brown,
and there are piles of rotting seaweed
on the beach

Here at life’s forgotten place
the clouds stand still
with bowed heads
and black shadow birds
point their sharp beaks
at the barrenness

and the raucous throats
grate on the dry, empty boats of the beach
